The Aircomfort system

Most backpacks sit directly against your back. That is efficient for weight transfer, but your back sweats against it all day. Deuter's Aircomfort system positions the back panel about 3cm away from your back via a tensioned mesh frame. Air circulates continuously along your spine. The result: less sweat, more comfort after four hours of wear. The trade-off is that the pack sways slightly more during fast movement.

32 litres: the day-trip sweet spot

A 20-litre pack is too small for a full day hike with a rain jacket, water, lunch, and a mid-layer. A 40-litre pack is too big for daily use — you will fill it with things you do not need. The Futura 32 fits everything for a day hike, a cycling day, or a city trip with one night. The zippered bottom access panel lets you reach the main compartment from below — useful for things you rarely need but do not want to forget.

Material and longevity

The outer fabric is 210D and 600D ripstop nylon — more durable than most sports packs sold at outdoor chains. The zips are YKK, the standard to look for if you want to know whether zippers will last. Deuter offers a three-year guarantee, but the pack outlasts that significantly with normal use. Shoulder straps and hip belt are replaceable.

What it is not

The Futura is a day pack, not a trekking model. For multi-day trips with camping gear, the Deuter Futura Vario is better — it has an expandable volume and adjustable torso length. The Futura 32 is for people who use a pack every day for work, sport, and outdoor, and want one good model that lasts ten years.
